This overland adventure takes you from Labuan Bajo on the western tip of Flores all the way to Maumere on the eastern coast. Over five days, you’ll travel through breathtaking highlands, witness ancient cultures, explore volcanic lakes, and marvel at lush rice fields. It’s an immersive journey that lets you discover the unique beauty of Flores, offering a deeper connection to its natural wonders and vibrant traditions.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Labuan Bajo – Spider Web Rice Fields – Ruteng Depart Labuan Bajo in the morning. Visit Lembor, home to the largest rice fields in Flores, then stop at Cara Village for a panoramic view of the iconic Spider Web Rice Fields. The day ends with a visit to the traditional village of Ruteng Pu’u. Overnight in Ruteng.
- Day 2: Ruteng – Liang Bua Cave – Bajawa Your journey continues with a visit to the famous Liang Bua Cave, the site where the remains of Homo floresiensis (the “Hobbit”) were discovered. Enjoy a scenic drive through the mountains and countryside before stopping at a local coffee plantation. Arrive in Bajawa, known for its hot springs and stunning volcano views. Overnight in Bajawa.
- Day 3: Bajawa – Traditional Villages – Hot Springs Explore the heart of the Ngada culture by visiting the traditional villages of Bena or Wogo to see their unique stone architecture. Afterward, relax and enjoy a dip in the therapeutic Malanage Hot Springs. You’ll also get to view Mount Inerie, one of Flores’ most iconic volcanoes. Overnight in Bajawa.
- Day 4: Bajawa – Ende – Moni Embark on a scenic drive through beautiful mountain roads to Ende. Stop at the stunning Blue Stone Beach and visit the historic Sukarno’s House. Continue your journey to Moni, the gateway to Kelimutu. Overnight in Moni.
- Day 5: Kelimutu Sunrise – Maumere Rise early for a hike to the summit of Mount Kelimutu to witness the unforgettable sunrise over its Three-Colored Lakes. After breakfast, visit local villages or weaving centers on the way to Maumere, where you will be transferred to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your trip.
